Combined Nevus Consisting of Blue Nevus and Dermal Nevus, Case Report and Review of the Literature
Dr. Engin ŞENELa,Dr. A. Tülin GÜLEÇa
aDermatoloji AD, Başkent Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, ANKARA Combined nevus is a pigmente skin lesion histopathologically characterised by the presence of 2 or more different types of melanocytic nevi in a single lesion. It is frequently missed in the clinical differential diagnosis of the melanocytic nevi due to its rare occurance and thus lack of awareness of this entity by the physicians. A 19-year-old woman was presented with a blueblack, dome-shaped nodule of 1.3 x 1.7 cm on her left gluteal region that was present for the last 5 years. Dermatoscopic examination revealed homogenous steel-blue appearence. The lesion was excised with a prediagnosis of blue nevus, but had the diagnosis of combined nevus after the histopathologic examination. Combined nevi are significant since they are included in the differential diagnosis of the malignant melanoma. However, it is very difficult to have the correct diagnosis of a combined nevi by clinical and dermatoscopic examination. Histopathologic investigation should be performed for the definite diagnosis. Keywords: Nevus, blue; nevus, intradermal; malignant melanoma nevusTurkiye Klinikleri J Dermatol 2008, 18:123-126
