Iontophoresis

Iontophoresis is the entry of various ions into the skin by using electric flow and its effectiveness and reliability in the treatment of hyperhidrosis have been known for years. The use of some hyperhidrosis treatment methods are limited because of their low effectiveness or requirement of invasive initiatives or they may cause important complications. Therefore in the cases that no reply can be taken to treatments iontophoresis can be used as a good treatment choice, before the invasive initiative is planned. Although it can be applied with tap water, anticholinergic agents and botulinum toxin can be added. Even if there may be different application advices, 2 or 3 sessions per week is especially advised. Iontophoresis is also a suitable method for increasing the absorption of local anesthesics, methotrexate, cysplatin, vinblastin and tretinoin into the skin. Erythema and hyperesthesia are reported as side effects.
