who were examined in Hacettepe University Hospital,
Department of Dermatology, between October 1992 and
April 1993, and whose dermatologie manifestations were
in accordance with allergic contact dermatitis.
Reactions were evaluated on clinical grounds and
histopatological and immunohistochemical findings were
compared to the negative control group.
The most common allergens causing allergic contact
dermatitis were found to be nickel sulphate and cobalt
chloride respectively.
In histopathological examinations, there were epidermal
and dermal edema, epidermal vesiculation, vacuolisation
and necrosis of ke rati oocytes, dermal lymphocyte
infiltration, quantitative decrease In Langerhans cells of
epidermis, increase in perivenular lymphoid tissue in dermis,
formation of high endothelial venules and quantitative
increase in mast cells In dermis.
The results of this study are mostly in accordance
with the literature but larger series are required to evaluate
the quantitative and qualitative changes of Langerhans
cells and frequency of Langerhans cell-lymphocyte
appositions in allergic contact dermatitis. Keywords: Patch test, Allergic contact dermatitisT Klin Dermatoloji 1994, 4:21-27
